Frequently Asked Questions - Eyelash Extensions
Allure Lashes are safely and accurately applied to your healthy natural eyelashes. At Allure Lashes, our technicians take the extra time before every appointment to assess the health and maturity level of your natural lashes. From that assessment, we are able to plan the best type of eyelash extension for YOUR particular eyelashes. Either synthetic mink (we NEVER use real mink lashes) or silk lashes in a wide range of both thickness and lengths ensures that our eyelash extensions are never too heavy, too thick or too long to be properly supported by your natural eyelashes. This extra step means that you will never receive eyelash extensions that are inappropriate for you, and will eliminate the risk of your natural lashes shedding prematurely. The only time you will see a natural lash “fall out” is at the end of their natural lash cycle which averages between 60 – 90 days.
At Allure Lashes all of our therapists are professionally trained in order to provide you with quality service and advice.
At Allure Lashes, our first priority is to ensure that we always look after our clients natural lashes. We specialise in individual eyelash extensions, which enables us to offer a detailed and meticulous service with a high quality finish. A full consultation is always carried out at the first appointment to determine the client’s requirements. The client’s lashes will also always be assessed and lengths and thicknesses of extensions will be chosen that will not compromise the natural lashes.
The quality and condition of your natural lashes will never be compromised.
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are a popular service and product that lengthens and thickens the look of your natural eyelashes. Single strands of synthetic eyelashes are curved to replicate a natural eyelash, and are applied to each individual lash one at a time to create beautiful long and full lashes. Eyelash Extensions are perfect for special occasions or for day to day wear.
What will they look like?
When eyelash extensions are applied properly they look and feel completely natural, just fuller and longer than your own. Check out our gallery to see the results of actual Allure Lash clients.
How long will it take to apply the eyelash extensions?
The application process for eyelash extensions normally takes 2 hours for a new set and 1 hour to
1hr 30min for a fill.
The average person has 60-100 natural eyelashes per eye, and we aim to apply an extension to every suitable one, therefore you can see why this is a time consuming and highly skilled treatment.
Does applying the lashes hurt?
No. You will lie comfortably on our massage table with your eyes closed. Many clients actually fall asleep during the procedure. The eyelash professional will apply an under eye gel pad to cover your lower lashes and the extensions will be applied to each individual eyelash. Once applied the lashes will feel comfortable and lightweight and you will not know that you are wearing them.
How long do they last?
Natural eyelashes grow and shed daily, with the average person losing 2-5 natural lashes per eye, per day. This means that if you wish to keep your eyelash extensions looking their best, then maintenance infills / touch-ups are required every 2-3 weeks.
If you choose to have your set for a special occasion only, then you can let them fall out naturally over the course of 3-6 weeks.
Everyone's experience will differ based on day to day activities and the strength of the natural lash.
How do I maintain the eyelash extensions?
You do have to treat the extensions with a little care and clean them regularly. Proper aftercare instructions will all be explained to you at the end of your appointment and you will receive an aftercare kit with some of the essentials to help maintain your extensions.
Can I wear mascara with the extensions?
No, mascara is not really required since the extensions actually give the illusion of wearing mascara. Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can dissolve the glue and shorten the life of your extensions causing them to fall out sooner.
Mascara cannot be cleaned from the extensions without damage, and can lead to bacterial infections such as Blepharitis.
We retail a black coating sealer designed for eyelash extensions which is much better for the glue, but we still recommended that it is only be applied to the ends of the lashes, not at the base where most of the glue is.
Can I wet the extensions?
Yes, 24 hours after the extensions are applied they can get wet. The glue we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc.
Can I choose what length of eyelash extensions I want?
Within reason, however here at Allure Lashes we only work from a platform based on your natural lashes, therefore clients must have realistic expectations of what we can safely achieve on them. The therapist will consult with you first to see what type of style you are interested in and then will assess the length and health of your own natural eyelashes and apply a bespoke set of eyelash extensions that can be safely supported by your own lashes. Someone with very fine and short lashes will not be able to achieve as dramatic of a look as someone with much fuller and stronger natural lashes. Our lash pros are very experienced and will be able to determine the best type of extension to apply to your lashes. No matter which set you choose the extensions will look and feel natural. We will never overload your natural lashes or cause damage.
Do eyelash extensions damage my natural eyelashes?
Rest assured, the answer is NO - IF applied correctly and provided you go to a trained professional who specializes in eyelash extensions and is trained in the CORRECT application method.
Each natural lash is isolated, and an eyelash extension applied to it, close to the lash line but without touching your skin.
Eyelash extensions can be safely worn, week after week, month after month, year after year, with no breaks, if desired.
However, there is still a lot of “bad press” stating that eyelash extensions cause damage.
A well-applied set of extensions that are custom created by the technician for the client will not cause damage. Sadly there are a lot of either untrained, or poorly trained, lash technicians continuing to apply extensions that are too thick, too long, or use too much glue. As such, lash extensions still have a bad reputation for causing damage.
It is paramount that clients thoroughly research their lash technician prior to any lash treatment.
The individual isolation of every suitable natural lash requires skill and time, with full sets and infills taking anywhere from 1-3 hours to complete, therefore this is not a speedy or cheap treatment for the therapist to be able to offer.
Sadly there are a lot of non-standard salons, offering the treatment of eyelash extensions for very little money, using poor quality products and “dumping” the extensions into the lash line, with no isolation of the natural lashes. Usually too much glue, in addition to very heavy extensions, causes severe discomfort and damage to the natural lashes, and results in the industry that I love still having a reputation for causing damage.
It is not the eyelash extensions that cause damage, but the therapist.
There are a lot of therapists out there performing eyelash extension treatments, but most are not lash specialists or experienced at what they do, because it takes years of hard work and dedication to perfect this craft.
Be prepared to thoroughly research your technician, and to pay higher prices for a quality service. Your eyes are the windows to your soul, please take care of them.
Why does the price of eyelash extensions vary so much?
The application of a set of quality eyelash extensions is a very intricate skill that can only be undertaken by a highly trained and skilled professional. Good therapists invest heavily into their training, and continue to take training throughout their career. Clients put their absolute trust in their therapist, who work on their delicate eye area while using sharp tweezers and strong adhesives.
The products used are of the highest medical grade quality and, as such are expensive to purchase. The lash products used on clients are applied in large quantities by the therapist, with between 200-600 extensions being applied, depending on the lash service you have.
What is the difference between classic lashes and volume lashes?
Classic lashes are achieved by applying ONE eyelash extension to ONE natural eyelash. Classic lash extensions are usually 0.15mm or 0.20mm in diameter, so slightly thicker than your natural lash.
For example: if you have 90 natural lashes we will only be able to apply 90 eyelash extensions using the classic technique.
The Russian Volume technique is accomplished when multiple eyelash extensions (2-6 extensions or more) are hand made into a fan then glued to ONE natural lash. The extensions used for volume lashes are much finer (0.05mm / 0.07mm) then their classic counterpart.
What makes this technique so amazing is that Russian Volume eyelash extensions are EXTREMELY thin! Meaning the weight of this technique is often less than or equal to the weight of a Classic eyelash extension. This is why Russian Volume can be worn by anyone, including those with severely thin natural lashes.
